Hook, line and sinker! That’s often what you hear when people are talking about fishing or, ‘It was huge, honestly!’ These may be some of the phrases you’ll hear at Richmond View School Fishing Club.
In 2015 the school ran a successful Fishing Club as part of their Learning Extension Group (LEGs). The previous club was run by Mr Barrie Clark an ex-school Principal and member of Marlborough Fresh Water Fishing Club. The children involved in that club were some of the lucky recipients of the latest ‘Have a Go at Fishing’ day. The NEW club was started at the end of last year when three students in Year 7/8 approached Principal, Mr Dave Pauling. The boys, Joshua Ponder, Seth Gorrie and Jacob Crossley, are mad keen on fishing. These three boys want to share their passion for fishing and have drawn up a set of techniques and skills needed. They are teaching and sharing their knowledge with some of the younger members of the school. The boys have even written to Don Hansen, owner of Hunting and Fishing, Blenheim, asking for support by providing materials. Mr. Hansen has very kindly donated over $300 worth of fishing supplies for the group members to use, as well as offering to come in to the school and share some of his fishing techniques. This is a great initiative which will help develop skills in listening, talking, reading and writing. It also provides opportunities for older students to work with younger ones as well as helping these three individual boys to lead and develop a project. Watch this space….. Comments are closed.
