Seesaw for Rooms 1-4 is mentioned. Seesaw is an online learning interface where teachers, students and parents can communicate and learn during this time. It would help us if you could either today or tomorrow , use the login details sent to sign in to your child’s account and have a look around the website. If you have an issue, get back to your classroom teacher or email tech support techsupport@rvs.school.nz . The Home Learning code attached allows students to sign in to Seesaw, view their journal, add posts, complete activities they’ve been assigned, and receive class announcements from their teachers. Students do not see the work of other students in the class. If students are using a tablet or phone device they need to download the “Seesaw Class App” onto their device. You can find further information about how to log in and use Seesaw here . QR Codes to be used to login to your child’s class: Scan this code with your phone or laptop after you’ve downloaded the app Rooms Library A, Library B & 5 - 8 InstructionsOutlined in the latest Principal’s Update are details relating to how distance learning
will work. Google Classroom for Rooms Lib-A to Rm 8 is mentioned. Today at 5pm we will post information on your child's Google Classroom page. This will outline some activities they can choose to work on over the holidays. Please ask your son/ daughter to log in to google classroom to make sure access is available. If you have any issues with login access please email your child's homeroom teacher. ● Depending on their age, students can be encouraged to read, or be read to. They can also help, by reading to their younger siblings, if they’re also home. ● Keeping a journal or scrapbook during the time period is a way for them to collect and create. These could incorporate drawings, photos, plans and stories of things they’ve done, all of which will help their literacy skills. ● Helping out with cooking and baking makes use of their maths skills and shows them how maths is all around them. Helping with housework also teaches your child lots of important skills about being organised, teamwork, co-operating and contributing. ● Talk to your child about how (critical) thinking is important to make sense of everything they do at school and at home. Find some news items or opinion pieces, and discuss whether you each agree with what’s been said. Why? Why not? Keep in mind these are just ideas that you may want to use with your children, and you will know how much or how long to spend on this. Remember, official distance learning begins on Wednesday the 15th of April. Below are some helpful links provided by the Ministry of Education; Ideas to support home learning in reading, writing and maths . Simply click the year group of your child and read the ideas they have given. Some of the activities will not apply while we are in isolation. https://parents.education.govt.nz/primary-school/learning-and-development-at-home/ideas-to-help-with-reading-writing-and-maths/ Talking to your children about Covid19 https://www.education.govt.nz/school/health-safety-and-wellbeing/pastoral-care-and-wellbeing/talking-to-children-about-covid-19-coronavirus/ Stay safe over the holidays and God bless, RVS Middle School Hi Parents and Caregivers
As you may have already heard our Prime Minister has declared that all schools have now closed (as of 3pm today, Monday). Richmond View School has closed its doors to all students except those with parents that work in essential services. They are able to attend tomorrow, Tuesday. The school will then be closed until further notice. Upon arriving at school tomorrow (students of essential service workers only) please report to Room 4. If you are an essential service parent and are sending your child tomorrow, please inform the office either by email or phone so that we know to expect your child. The Principal will provide more information about online learning. Please do not contact the office regarding this, we will be in contact when we have more information from the Ministry of Education on how and when this will happen. In the meantime your child could log on to Mathletics, write a journal and read online or books from home. We moved through the classes before the closure of school this afternoon and reminded students who had their own device at school to take it home with their charger. We will continue to update you as we receive more guidance from the Ministry of Education. Stay safe and God Bless Kia Ora RVS Community,
You will no doubt be aware of the changing nature of the COVID-19 situation. I will continue to update you with new information as it relates to RVS. RVS remains open and will do so until we are told to close by the The Ministry of Education (MOE) . The MOE have recommended that people with the following conditions, or who are in close contact to those with these conditions, should remain at home:
During school time, much is being done to mitigate spread of the virus including: - Surface cleaning often - Cleaning of handles often - Hand-washing continues to be a priority - Limiting times where we are close to one another You can help us & each other by: - Dropping students outside the class rather than coming inside - Keeping sick (any illness) children at home - Praying with your kids and talking through anxieties that are heightened at the moment. - Keeping an eye on each other as we do so well here at RVS. Online Learning is being developed by staff at the moment. I am pleased that the Marlborough Principal’s Association (MPA) and the Piritahi Community of Schools are working to provide consistency across Marlborough’s schools in relation to online learning. We already use digital platforms for delivery but a plan will be needed regarding the amount of work, the type of work and the way it is communicated before we launch this. I will communicate more regarding this in time. The latest cancellations include: - Our trips to Brayshaw Park (The teacher will come to us and we will enjoy learning about games/toys form the past out on the court) - All technology at the Bohally Tech Centre - All Stadium 2000 events including Middle School PE and Aquablast planned for Week 9 - We are unsure about how winter sport will look but will continue to collect enrolment forms for these sports. Please see the RVS Sports Academy page for more details. Thank you for your ongoing support for each other and for us as a school. Our staff have students dispersed across different spaces at the moment, they are running classes as normal with reduced staff, they are planning for online teaching and have their own families/situations. Please be mindful of this with your expectations of them. I finish today’s update with a reminder that our God is our ever-present help in difficult times. He will not be social distancing…. Our motivation for following guidelines and taking this situation seriously is less about fear and more about love, love for the vulnerable among us, particularly our elderly and unwell. Stay safe & God bless, Dave Pauling Marlborough Roads will be resurfacing the area in yellow below over the next week. Please allow extra time when dropping and picking up your child from school as there may be delays.
