Term Four News

11/11/2019

You're Invited!

This year Richmond View School is commencing our new prize-giving format. Our rapidly increasing student numbers has meant that we needed to choose between either hosting a separate Junior and Senior prize-giving night, or split prize-giving into two different assemblies. We want to continue meeting together as a whole school whanau to celebrate student achievement and so we have chosen to split our usual assembly into two parts.

  • A whole school certificate assembly - 1:30PM Tuesday 10th December
This assembly is to recognise student effort over the year.
This assembly is open to parents and whanau to attend.
  • A formal prize giving evening - 6:30PM Wednesday 11th December.
This assembly is a celebration of student achievement across 2019 and will include student performances and presentation of whole school awards.
Parents and whanau are invited to attend.
Students are to be dressed in full school uniform and be seated by 6:20PM

Please note that student ATTENDANCE AT BOTH ASSEMBLIES is COMPULSORY for students.

Staffing and Classes for 2020

CLASSES FOR 2020
Due to large student numbers currently in Years 4 and Years 5, we have added a fully staffed half-class that will be placed in the library for one year while new classrooms are being built. The library will continue to function in a limited capacity next year.
The new classrooms will be known as Library A (current library) and Library B (current Year 9 classroom) and will house Years 5 and 6 students.

The image above shows the layout for classrooms for 2020.
In 2021, we expect Years 7 and 8 will move into C-Block (shown in red above) while Years 9-11 will move into new classrooms. Years 5 and 6 will move back into B-Block  (shown in green above) which means that Years 0-8 will be settled in their permanent spaces from 2021 onwards.

I am excited about the way the school will look next year with a separate Middle and Jnr school.  Much work will go in during the summer break to have classes looking sharp.
NEW STAFF
We are excited to announce that we will have four new staff members joining our team in 2020. The Board are funding extra teachers to keep class numbers low. We thank them so much for their commitment to our school.

MALANIE VAN DER VYVER
Head of Junior School

Malanie joins us with a wealth of experience across both Junior and Middle schools. She has had a diverse career with specialist training in inclusion, technology and supporting students with special needs. Malanie is passionate about Jesus and is excited at the opportunity to lead her Junior School "team" in the coming years.

JEREMY NEWTON
Middle School Teacher

Jeremy is an enthusiastic teacher who specialises in Secondary Health and Physical Education. He has most recently been working at Marlborough Girls College where he has also been teaching English and Social Studies, in addition to coaching various sporting teams. Jeremy is actively involved in coordinating youth groups as well as the evening church service at Nativity. He is going to be an excellent addition to our Middle School team.

JESSICA POWELL
Junior School Teacher

Jess is returning to our school after spending two years teaching at a school on the North Island. She is an outstanding primary school teacher whose gentle nature, creative classroom ideas and high attention to detail will make her an excellent member of our Junior School team.
We also have a fourth new staff member for the middle school whom we will be announcing shortly. This person comes with excellent skills and experience, and will be a wonderful asset to our school community.
We are also farewelling our vibrant Mrs Johnson who is taking time to focus on her family and plan for overseas travel. We wish her every happiness.

Bell Times for 2020

Bell times for 2020 will continue as we have done this year with a few changes:
  • Library A & Library B will be on the Junior School (Y0-6) Bell Timetable
  • Blocks B & C will be on the Middle School (Y7 to 10) Bell Timetable

RVS Foundation Name Change

Picture
The RVS Foundation will have a new name in 2020:
RVS SUPPORT CREW
While we loved our original name, there were legal implications associated with the term 'Foundation'.
We are always looking for more helpers to support us in raising funds for our much-needed infrastructure, such as new Junior School playground equipment. If you would like to join our the RVS Support Crew, please let the office know.

Car Park

A reminder, please keep your speed down in the car park for the safety of all.  Also, the drop-off zones are only for use in the mornings and during the day up until 2pm.  From 2pm to 4pm, the drop -off zones must be kept clear for student safety.

School Uniform

We are just about to place our first order of school uniform items. If all goes according to plan, we will have uniform available for purchase during the week prior to school commencing in 2020. We will advise you dates and times when you can come into the school to try on sizes and purchase new uniform once our first shipment arrives.

The blessing of working in a Christ-centred school is never lost on me.  We are in the middle of a very exciting change, from Full Primary School of 90 students to a Full Area School of 350, comprising of 3 schools in one.  While there is growth and change, physically and organisationally, the heart of the school and its devotion to quality Christian education remains steadfast.
I thank you and congratulate you as a community for your patience, grace and excitement for the changes happening here at RVS.  I encourage you to continue to love & forgive one another, to include and help one another, to meet someone new in the wonderful community that is RVS.

God bless,

Dave Pauling
