Kia ora School Community It was such a pleasure seeing everyone back yesterday. I spent a lot of time in all of the different classes and will continue to do so for a while as we all settle in. We talked in assembly about two particular concepts, firstly the teaching from Jesus himself regarding sparrows. We looked at a close-up of a feather and discussed its intricate design and beauty. His care for a sparrow is an example of how His care for us is huge and we need not worry, a good reminder for the first day. Secondly, the concept of looking outside ourselves to the needs of others. I presented two pieces of advice, one from the internet and one from the Bible. The students could identify the scriptural truth straight away. Doing things God's way will make RVS a great place to be because His way is always best.. We were planning on having our School Picnic / Open Evening tomorrow, (Thursday) evening but have decided to postpone due to expected rain. We will now be having our School Picnic / Open Evening next Thursday, the 8th of February from 5:30 - 7pm. More information from the RVS Foundation regarding this will follow shortly. I would like to invite anyone, particularly new parents, to join me in the RVS staff room tomorrow at 2:15-3pm for a casual Q&A and information meeting. There is always so much to know when starting a new school and we want our community to have the opportunity to hear about how RVS works and have a chance to ask questions. I look forward to the rest of Week One and hope you enjoy your extended Waitangi Weekend. God bless, Dave Pauling - Principal A happy New Year to you all! I pray the break and any family time you managed to get was valuable and enjoyable. 2018 already.... It is going to be a fabulous year, growing in His light together.
I wish to welcome to RVS: Kiri Johnson - She will be team teaching in Rm 6 on a Monday, Tuesday and Friday with Rob Elwood teaching on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Kiri is an experienced teacher who comes to us from teaching last year at Redwoodtown School. Logan Brown - (See previous post) Debbie Struthers - Debbie will be teaching on a Monday and Tuesday in Rm 1 with Ruby Roughton (nee Hunt) teaching Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Debbie is an experienced teacher and brings much to RVS. The Rm1 email contact is rm1teacher@rvs.school.nz. Ruby Roughton - Ruby, while a beginning teacher, has had teaching experience here at RVS in the past. She has trained at Bethlehem Tertiary Institute and is an excellent practitioner. I am confident that RVS will be able to continue to partner with you, as it has in the past with these fine, Christ focussed teachers joining the team. I also welcome back our fantastic remaining teachers, excellent teacher aides, slick office staff and our hard working BOT. I welcome particularly new parents and students and pray the RVS community embraces you quickly. I will host a 'New to RVS' parent meeting in Week 2 to answer questions and help orient you around the school. More information to follow. Keep the evening of Thursday the 1st free for our 'Meet the Teacher Picnic'. More information will come out on this shortly. I look forward to see the students on Tuesday next week and getting back into the business of learning and growing. What a privilege as a Christian parent to be able to partner with a school that teaches from/within a Christian Worldview. See you shortly. God bless, Dave Pauling - Principal |
