Rooms 3 & 4 Class Page
Term 3, 2019 Welcome back to Term3! Term 2 was so amazing. As a school we took part in so many activities - ‘The Giant Slayer’ production, Chess Tournament, Touch Rugby, Music Academy, Gymnastics and the 40 Hour Famine to name but a few. We are very proud that children from Rooms 3 & 4 took part in all these activities. Well done! Thanks to the amazing Mrs Galloway who worked so hard in Room 3 allowing Mrs Crossley to step into Mr. Pauling’s role. This term for weeks 1 - 7 Mrs Van Der Vyver will be teaching in Room 3. Mr. Brown, Mrs.Crossley & Mrs. Van Der Vyer have been working together both before the holidays and during to ensure a seamless join in our children’s learning. Mrs. Crossley will be back with her ‘chickens’ from week 8. We hope that you enjoyed reading your child’s school report. In week 2 we have parent interviews which you’re welcome to attend. More news about these will be in the School Newsletter. So what is happening this term? Term 3 sees us starting with preparation for the RVS, and the Marlborough Cross Country races. All children will need their running shoes at school every day. Children will not need to change into full PE uniform however, PE kit is best kept in school bags Mon - Fri, as we have no set PE day and we might go outside from time to time. This term we will be taking part in the Fundamental Skills programme at the Stadium in Week 10. Our overarching topic is ‘God is Generous and wants us to be grateful and generous’. Our Term Scripture is at the end of this page and will also be sent home on Day 1 of the term. All children are expected to recite their scripture by the end of week 7. In Devotions we will be looking particularly at the following books from the Bible - Samuel, Joel, Luke 10-24, Acts and Philippians In Science we are looking at Fins and Feathers - as we appreciate the design features of animals, environments and ourselves, we can respond with wonderment and awe and exhibit the quality of gratitude. In Social Science we will be investigating ‘Precious Places and Resources of our Nation’. In Literacy we will be exploring the features of Poetry and creating our own poems. In Maths we will be looking at Fractions, Time and Number as well as Patterns and Relationships. As always, we thank you for your support. We will continue to build on our own learning so that we can support and guide your child with their learning. May God bless you. Francesca Crossley, Logan Brown & Malanie Van Der Vyver. Year 3 Memory Verse ~ Term 3 ~ Don’t worry “Don’t worry and ask yourselves, ‘Will we have anything to eat? Will we have anything to drink? Will we have any clothes to wear’? Only people who don’t know God are always worrying about such things. Your Father in heaven knows that you need all of these. But more than anything else, put God’s work first and do what he wants. Then the other things will be yours as well. Don’t worry about tomorrow. It will take care of itself. You have enough to worry about today. Matthew 6:31-34 Year 4 Memory Verse ~ Term 3 ~ Two builders‘Anyone who hears and obeys these teachings of mine is like a wise person who built a house on solid rock. Rain poured down, rivers flooded and winds beat against that house. But it didn’t fall, because it was built on solid rock. Anyone who hears my teachings and doesn’t obey them is like a foolish person who built a house on sand. The rain poured down, the rivers flooded, and the winds blew and beat against that house. Finally it fell with a crash! Matthew 7:24-27 Year 5 Memory Verse Term 3 Don’t store up treasures on earth! Moths and rust can destroy them, and thieves can break in and steal them. Instead store up your treasures in heaven where moths and rust can’t destroy them, and thieves can’t break in and steal them. Your heart will always be where your treasure is. Your eyes are like a window for your body. When they are good you have all the light you need. But when your eyes are bad everything is dark. If the light inside you is dark, you really are in the dark. You can’t be the slave of two masters! You will like one more than the other or be more loyal to one than the other. You can’t serve both God and money. Matthew 6 v 19-24 Today Constable Josh Reidie came in to talk to us about ways we can keep safe in our homes, school and community. It was really great to have him in the class. Josh Reidie is not only our Community Policeman, he is also a parent in our school. Josh is able to support us in many ways within a Christian Context. This Social Science theme links with our overall arching theme of – How can we obey God? and Why do we need Laws and Rules? We talked briefly about
We learnt that there are many people who can help us and that it’s important to ask for help when we need it. Josh will be coming back in a couple of weeks again to talk about ‘Rules’ and to do some more role-playing activities. We CAN’T wait! Thankyou Josh! Back into it for term two.
We trust you have all had a great break over the holidays and everyone is recharged and ready for another great term. Term one finished well with swimming week in week ten, and a celebration of Easter in week eleven. It was great to see so many parents come through our classes to view students work for Easter. Term two is already looking like a busy term with organisation and practise for our school production getting underway in week five. This will be a great experience for a lot of our younger and new students in the school, as well as an opportunity to build confidence in front of an audience, regardless of experience. We are really looking forward to it in Rooms Three and Four! Our PE day in our classes is changing to a Tuesday. Gymnastics is our focus for the first part of the term. Please ensure PE kit is bought for Tuesday afternoons. The scripture memory verses for this term are as follows: Year 3 - ‘You are the light of the world. Let your light shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.’ Matthew 5:14 and 16. Year 4 - ‘Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.’ ‘Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! Matthew 7: 7-11. Year 5 - ‘Don’t condemn others, and God won’t condemn you. God will be as hard on you as you are on others. He will treat you exactly as you treat them. You can see the speck in your friend’s eye, but you don’t notice the log in your own eye. How can you say “My friend, let me take the speck out of your eye,” when you don’t see the log in your own eye? You’re nothing but show offs! First take the log out of your own eye. Then you can see how to take the speck out of your friend’s eye.’ Matthew 7: 1-5. There is nothing more important to learn than God’s word. This term we are looking at why people choose to obey God. For us to obey God we must know his word and have it in our hearts. God bless, see you soon, Mrs Crossley and Mr Brown. Welcome back to Room Three and Four for Term four! The home straight for the year always seems to come around so quickly, but time flies when you are having fun! We have been working collaboratively this year in our rooms, although this is the first time we have written a combined blog, so the information included is relevant to both our classes. Student voice has been very positive towards the combined approach across our two classes this year, with students enjoying the opportunities to work with a wider range of students and adults in their learning. It has been great to see growth in students social and group work skills as they work with a range of peers. Term three was a particularly busy term with a number of sports skills (Hockey, Cricket, Tennis, Gymnastics and Cross-Country) included in our schedule. This was rounded off by a productive week at the Stadium for the Fundamental Skills Program. We also had two trips out to Brayshaw Park as we looked at Maori culture and Harekeke (flax) as a valuable resource to Maori. We started a specific focus on Spelling in Term three and will continue this in Term four. We have seen most students engage well with the spelling program and watched many of them grow in confidence and ability with their spelling as a result. Strong support from home with learning spelling words has helped with the students we have seen the most growth in. Please continue to listen to children read out loud each night. Asking questions afterwards that test understanding of what has been read, or link to children’s prior knowledge, helps a lot with comprehension and inference skills. Our Term four Scripture for year three is Psalm 121, Year four is Proverbs 3: (1-3, 5-6, 11-12, 21-24) and Year five is Matthew 5:1-10. Each child received a copy of this prior to the holidays so they can start to learn them over the break. If they lose them they will be on our Class page. Our Devotions topic for the term is ‘God is Truth and wants us to be Truthful’. We will be teaching that God’s truth is absolute and although it can be challenging to to tell the truth at times, it should always be done with love. This is a very relevant topic in the world we live in today and our view on this topic sets Richmond View School apart from other schools. We thank you for your continued support and love. Logan Brown & Francesca Crossley Year 4 Memory Verse
~ Term 4 ~ Wise proverbs ‘My child, remember my instructions and obey them completely. They will help you live a long and prosperous life. Let love and loyalty always show like a necklace, and write them in your mind.’ Proverbs 3:1-3 ‘With all your heart you must trust the Lord and not your own judgement. Always let Him lead you, and He will clear the road for you to follow.’ Proverbs 3:5-6 ‘My child, don’t turn away or become bitter when the Lord corrects you. The Lord corrects everyone He loves, just as parents correct their favourite child.’ Proverbs 3:11-12 ‘My child, use common sense and sound judgement! Always keep them in mind. They will help you to live a long and beautiful life. You will walk safely and never stumble; you will rest without a worry and sleep soundly. Proverbs 3:21 Year 3 Memory Verse ~ Term 4 ~ ‘I look to the hills! Where will I find my help? It will come from the Lord, who created the heavens and the earth. The Lord is your protector, and He won’t go to sleep or let you stumble. The protector of Israel doesn’t doze or ever get drowsy. The Lord is your protector, there at your right side to shade you from the sun. You won’t be harmed by the sun during the day or by the moon at night. The Lord will protect you and keep you safe from all dangers. The Lord will protect you now and always wherever you go.’ Psalm 121 Wow! What a term we just had - busy, hard work and fun. I hope that you managed to get along to one of our RVS amazing assemblies. These happen most weeks and are on the RVS website so that you can plan ahead and come to see your child take a lead role in his/her class assembly.
We ended Term 2 with the amazing SHINE! week. All of the children at RVS had the opportunity to take part and SHINE! in one of the creative arts/performing arts. It was AMAZING! Term 3 will be no less busier. We will continue to work alongside Room 4, sharing teachers and teacher aides, and allowing the children more opportunity to work in smaller groups or individual situations. As always, all the children will have a TERM Scripture to learn. These were given out the last week of last term. This was to allow the children some extra time to work on their Scripture verses. There can be no more an important task for our children and ourselves as parents, than to help them instill the Word of God in their hearts, for life. Thank you for your help in this. We will be visiting Brayshaw Park on two occasions this coming term and a letter will come home with details about this in week one. This term there will be parent conferences. Remeber to book online. RVS Cross Country will take place in week 3 - dates and times will be in the RVS Newsletter. Room 3 will also take part in the Stadium 2000 Fundamental Skills programme towards the end of this term. Please keep praying for our RVS College. There is much work to do and prayer is a most powerful source of strength. God Bless and thank you. Francesca Crossley. This morning we had a visit from the Dog Safety Officer. She taught us how to stay safe around dogs. We watched a video and had the chance to ask some questions. Here are some photos.
