, Next week Rooms 3 & 4 will be starting their Class Reading programmes. Your child will come home with a book and a reading log Monday - Wednesday. On Thursdays they will be asked to select a book of their choice to take home. Research has shown that there is a direct correlation between reading at home and school and the impact this has on a child's levels of achievement. "Reading and storytelling with your child promotes brain development and imagination, teaches your child about language and emotions, and strengthens your relationship". www.Raising children.net.au The impact of reading 20 mins each day. It may feel hard to find 20 minutes each day to read with your child, but the cost of not doing this is far too great. Children who read for just 20 minutes per day see 1.8 million words each year and have scores on standardised tests in the 90th percentile (because they have experienced so many words!). Compare this with the child who is reading for just 1 minute per day, they only see 8000 words each year and have scores in the 10th percentile on standardised tests. A small amount of reading each day makes an incredible difference! (Nagy and Herman, 1987) We would ask that you set aside 15- 20 minutes each night to actively listen to your child read. Once you have heard your child read we would ask that you talk about what he/she has read, even ask them to retell the story to you, or ask them questions about what they have read. The Reading Log needs to be signed by a parent/Grandparent and returned to school each day along with the reading book and spelling notebook. Please help us to help your child succeed. We work best when we work together. As the old saying goes...... 'It takes a village to raise a child'. On Monday 17th February - that's Monday coming - we will be having Cricket coaching in school. ALL children in Room 3 should come to school wearing P.E. uniform - this includes suitable gym shoes. Please also ensure that you put sunblock on your child or send them to school with some.

~ Term 4 ~ ‘I look to the hills! Where will I find my help? It will come from the Lord, who created the heavens and the earth. The Lord is your protector, and He won’t go to sleep or let you stumble. The protector of Israel doesn’t doze or ever get drowsy. The Lord is your protector, there at your right side to shade you from the sun. You won’t be harmed by the sun during the day or by the moon at night. The Lord will protect you and keep you safe from all dangers. The Lord will protect you now and always wherever you go.’ Psalm 121 Year 4 Memory Verse ~ Term 4 ~ Wise proverbs ‘My child, remember my instructions and obey them completely. They will help you live a long and prosperous life. Let love and loyalty always show like a necklace, and write them in your mind.’ Proverbs 3:1-3 ‘With all your heart you must trust the Lord and not your own judgement. Always let Him lead you, and He will clear the road for you to follow.’ Proverbs 3:5-6 ‘My child, don’t turn away or become bitter when the Lord corrects you. The Lord corrects everyone He loves, just as parents correct their favourite child.’ Proverbs 3:11-12 ‘My child, use common sense and sound judgement! Always keep them in mind. They will help you to live a long and beautiful life. You will walk safely and never stumble; you will rest without a worry and sleep soundly. Proverbs 3:21-24 Hello everyone! I am returning to my regular job of Depute Principal/Class Teacher as from Week 1 of Term 4! YIPPEE! I have missed my 'Chickens' so much. They have grown in so many ways.
I'd like to take this chance to thank Mrs Van Der Vyver for her energy, enthusiasm and love for the children. She has been such a blessing to our school. So what's happening in Term 4? Remember it's summer term so all children need a school hat and sandals. Children can bring a roll on sun block to school if you wish. This can be applied by your child during lunch and playtimes. Please explain to your child how to use this. Our overall theme is God is Faithful. We will be looking at what it means to be faithful and how God our Father has shown his faithfulness to us and how some of the characters in the Bible showed their faithfulness to Him. Our Social Science and Science topic this Term will be around the upcoming Tuia 250 celebrations here in New Zealand. We will be investigating what it must have been like on board HMS Endeavour and the travels Captain James Cook took around New Zealand and the Pacific. We will also be looking at how the early explorers used the stars to navigate their routes. PE - Please note that children will NOT require their PE kit until Week 4. PE will be on a Wednesday afternoon. Rooms 3 & 4 will be working together on our piece for the end of year prizegiving. ALL CHILDREN are to attend the end of year prizegiving. End of year reports will be issued in the last week of this term. Once again Logan and I thank you for your continued support. God bless. Francesca Crossley & Logan Brown Tomorrow, Tuesday 10th September, the children are able to wear their P.E. uniform as they are taking part in Cricket and Touch rugby Skills.
