Hello and welcome to the 4th Blog of 2019!
It has been an exciting week for all who were involved with the preparation of our new classroom and for all of the pioneer students. On Monday we celebrated the opening of the first college classroom, officially marking the beginning of the Richmond View High School. We had the great honour of the mayor and mayoress of Marlborough presenting badges to the year nine students, the start of the Honours program. Three of our year nine students gave speeches on what the past, present and future of RVS will look like and Mr Adamson made us proud with a speech in Te Reo Maori. After the service, our year 9 students served cake to the people who came to the opening and there was a special picture of the first day of school 2019 presented to each attendee. The Marlborough Express has an article on the class opening, go and check it out on the Marlborough express webpage. In science this week, we have continued to work on creating and testing water rockets using an aim, method and averages of our results to show our progress. A video of a successful 60m flight was filmed by Zoe Jordaan. The longest rocket to fly is 66 meters by Felix, Timothy and Jeong-Hun. This week we also welcome a new student into our classroom, Bailey Watson. We pray that she makes a smooth transition into this new environment as we are excited to have her joining us. This next week we are at Whenua iti on our year nine camp, so there will be no blog, but stay tuned for our week seven blog with a recap on our exciting camp experience. Your Week Four bloggers, Cameron and Grace. This week was Sports week for the whole school - we have been doing hockey, soccer, volleyball, netball, basketball, rugby and cricket. We have included some photos of us in action below.
Something very exciting coming up soon is the opening of the first classroom for the college and we get to move into that this week. Don't forget that the official opening is on Monday the 18th at 9:00 am. Remember camp is in week 5 so don't forget to get some gear if you don't have it and to return any forms that still need to be handed in. If you haven't already don't forget to bring your bibles to school. Blog by Felix Hitchins/bell & Timothy McGill Hello! Welcome to the first blog written by students!
We will be introducing you to how our new brilliant college is going. Our class is extremely thankful and proud to have two new college teachers. Also we are very excited that we will be having our new awesome classroom fully built. English is awesome! Mrs Pigou is teaching us English and Spelling. We have sheets of paper in the beginning we all choose the words we think is hard and with it we do all sorts of fun subjects with it the words that we enjoy. Then since we are all warmed up we go into the English subject deeper. Then we have Social Studies. This also Mrs Pigou teaches us and it is wonderful subject. To us it is also known as history. We have learnt so much the history of Egypt. Soon we have Maths! Mr Adamson is the teacher for this subject. If you come and see with your own eyes all of us are enjoying it and into it! We learn what Math is for and how it is used. For Languages we are taught by our PC in the website called Te Kura and we are having fun communicating to our language group members with the language we have learnt. For Health we learn about about human rights and the health of our human society. Then we have Science - Mr Adamson teaches. It is always interesting how it works and what we can earn out of it. We learn the types of Science there is too! Next we always have mentoring after lunch and in mentoring we are the mentor of ourselves. We look back and think how well have I improved or what more do I need to catch up with the others? Once a fortnight we will be called in by the teachers to see how we are going or if there is some hardship and problem that needs solving. Finally we have the Year 9 going to the stadium to do a lot of exercise and sports. We are doing all types of fitness and improve our health. Our mentor is Patra and we are always engaged on whatever we are doing and make the most of it fun. God Bless, Jeong Hun and Joseph In Week 5 we will all be heading off to Whenua Iti for our Year 9 Camp. A letter was sent home on Thursday 7th Feb but if you have lost it or the gear list, they are below. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.
This week has been a week of firsts for the Pioneer group here at Richmond View School.
Wednesday was the first day - we celebrated with the whole school when we all assembled on the courtyard to have a photo and video taken by a drone! We got to meet each other and do some team building activities (as in the pictures at the bottom of this post). Thursday was our first visit to the Stadium for Physical Education. this will be a regular event for us every Thursday afternoon. this week was Futsal training in a very hot Gymnasium. Friday we launched into our learning and had our first online Language sessions. We have students taking French, German, Spanish, Korean, Japanese and Chinese. It is quite a sight and sound to behold. The biggest and most significant aspect of this week has been beginning to unpack the plans that God has for each of us. Our focus scripture this week has been: Jeremiah 29:11 - "For I know the plans I have for you", declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future". We have a fantastic group of young people in Year 9, all with a bright and prosperous future ahead of them. Thank you God, for the great start to the year. God Bless, Mr Adamson |
