Today PC Josh Reidie, came to our class to talk to our children about Keeping Ourselves Safe. We are very blessed that Josh comes to our school. He is a local Police Officer and as a Christian, he shares this very important message to our children within a Christian context. Josh will be coming in again tomorrow to continue with his talk. We had a great time. Please talk with your child about what Josh taught them.
Thank you Josh! Welcome back!
Well what a year 2020 has been so for our world! It's been challenging for us all, but as Christians we must never lose hope. God is walking before us and even carrying us through these times when we need Him too. Mrs. Crossley and I are so glad to have all our 'chickens' back home to roost in Rooms 3 & 4! We thank you for your support during the Lockdown and we want you to know that we appreciated all your help and your kind comments. We LOVED seeing the children's work and receiving their messages online. This term we are looking forward to our school Cross-Country, our 'Run for Bibles' and the '40 Hr Famine' challenges. Our Term 2 Scripture verses were posted on Seesaw for the children to learn, and again we thank you for your help with this - so many children have recited their verses to us and we look forward to more children having a go. We have given out some paper copies of our Scripture verses to those children who needed a new copy. There can be nothing more important than learning God's own words. Remember we are always here if you need us. Please feel free to contact us either via email or through the school office. May God bless you. Logan Brown & Francesca Crossley This week Rooms 3 & 4 will be starting their Class Reading programmes. Your child will come home with a book and a reading log Monday - Wednesday. On Thursdays they will be asked to select a book of their choice to take home. Research has shown that there is a direct correlation between reading at home and school and the impact this has on a child's levels of achievement. "Reading and storytelling with your child promotes brain development and imagination, teaches your child about language and emotions, and strengthens your relationship". www.Raising children.net.au The impact of reading 20 mins each day. It may feel hard to find 20 minutes each day to read with your child, but the cost of not doing this is far too great. Children who read for just 20 minutes per day see 1.8 million words each year and have scores on standardised tests in the 90th percentile (because they have experienced so many words!). Compare this with the child who is reading for just 1 minute per day, they only see 8000 words each year and have scores in the 10th percentile on standardised tests. A small amount of reading each day makes an incredible difference! (Nagy and Herman, 1987)
We would ask that you set aside 15- 20 minutes each night to actively listen to your child read. Once you have heard your child read we would ask that you talk about what he/she has read, even ask them to retell the story to you, or ask them questions about what they have read. The Reading Log needs to be signed by a parent/Grandparent and returned to school each day along with the reading book and spelling notebook. Please help us to help your child succeed. We work best when we work together. As the old saying goes...... 'It takes a village to raise a child'. Dear Parents/Whanau,
Welcome back! We are excited to start another year of growth - spiritually, academically and emotionally. We welcome 10 new students into Rooms 3 & 4 and thank God for bringing them to us. This term our theme is - God is at work and wants us to be diligent. In Maths we will be looking at number strategies and number knowledge. Our Literacy focus will be Narrative writing and developing specific skills in punctuation and grammar. Science sees us investigating Machines. Social Science will have us looking into People in the Past. We will be visiting Brayshaw Park to further investigate this topic. This terms P.E. focus is swimming and this will take place in week 9. There will be opportunities to develop our cricket and hockey skills also. Cricket will take place on Week 2, Monday 10th February and Hockey will take place on Week 3 - Tuesday 18th February - Friday 21st February. Apart from these times, there will be no weekly P. E., as students will be taking part in a daily exercise program and we have visiting sports tutors throughout the term. This term will also see us revisiting the NZ Education programme ‘Keeping Ourselves Safe’. This is delivered in partnership with Community Police. Mrs. Van der Vyver will distribute more information about this later in the term. By continuing to read on, you will find this term’s Scripture Verses for Years 3, 4 and 5. These are to be learnt and recited in their entirety by the end of week 8. This is not an optional part of our learning BUT an integral part of our spiritual growth in Christ and our school curriculum. We thank you for support. Please feel free to email or call should you need to chat with us. Francesca Crossley & Logan Brown. Year 3 Memory Verse ~ Term 1 ~ The Lord’s Prayer ‘ This is how you should pray: “ ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’ For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.” Matthew 6:9-15 Year 4 Memory Verse ~ Term 1 ~ The Ten Commandments 1. Put God first. 2. Don’t bow down to idols. 3. Don’t use God’s name as a swear word. 4. Remember the Sabbath day. 5. Honour you father and mother. 6. Don’t murder. 7. Be faithful in marriage. 8. Don’t steal. 9. Don’t tell lies. 10. Don’t be jealous. Exodus 20:1-17 Year 5 Memory Verse ~ Term 1 ~ Books of the Bible Each student will receive a stationery pack on their first day which includes a pencil case, this will be charged to your school account. Ordering stationery as a school brings the cost down considerably for our families. Rooms 3 & 4 will be having a Water Fight !!!
Children should come to school in mufti and wear SENSIBLE shoes that will allow them to run about. Swimming togs, a rash vest/old T-Shirt and shorts can be worn in the afternoon, and sunblock MUST be used. If your child has a water gun, they are allowed to bring that to school - PLEASE HAVE YOUR CHILD"S NAME ON IT. A towel (named) should also be brought to school - we intend to get wet and have fun!!! Many thanks for your help with Scripture this term. It's one of THE most important things your child could learn. Francesca Crossley & Logan Brown Hello everyone! It is great to welcome Mrs Crossley back to Rm 3 and 4 as she returns from her time as Acting Principal. We would like to thank Mrs van der Vyver for her hard work in our classes last term, it was great to have you join us!
So what's happening in Term 4? Remember it's summer term so all children need a school hat and sandals. Children can bring a roll on sun block to school if you wish. This can be applied by your child during lunch and playtimes. Please explain to your child how to use this. Our overall theme is God is Faithful. We will be looking at what it means to be faithful and how God our Father has shown his faithfulness to us and how some of the characters in the Bible showed their faithfulness to Him. Our Social Science and Science topic this Term will be around the upcoming Tuia 250 celebrations here in New Zealand. We will be investigating what it must have been like on board HMS Endeavour and the travels Captain James Cook took around New Zealand and the Pacific. We will also be looking at how the early explorers used the stars to navigate their routes. PE - Please note that children will NOT require their PE kit until Week 4. PE will be on a Wednesday afternoon. Rooms 3 & 4 will be working together on our piece for the end of year prizegiving. ALL CHILDREN are to attend the end of year prizegiving. End of year reports will be issued in the last week of this term. Our Term 4 scriptures are: Matthew 5:1-10 for Year 5 When Jesus saw the crowds he went up on the side of mountain and sat down. Jesus’ disciplines gathered around him and he taught them: God blesses those people who depend only on him. They belong to the kingdom of heaven. God blesses those people who grieve. They will find comfort! God blesses those people who are humble. The earth will belong to them. God blesses those people who want to obey him more than to eat or drink. They will be given what they want. God blesses those people who are merciful. They will be treated with mercy. God blesses those people whose hearts are pure. They will see him. God blesses those people who make peace. They will be called his children. God blesses those people who are treated badly for doing right. They belong to the kingdom of heaven. Wise Proverbs for Year 4 ‘My child, remember my instructions and obey them completely. They will help you live a long and prosperous life. Let love and loyalty always show like a necklace, and write them in your mind.’ Proverbs 3:1-3 ‘With all your heart you must trust the Lord and not your own judgement. Always let Him lead you, and He will clear the road for you to follow.’ Proverbs 3:5-6 ‘My child, don’t turn away or become bitter when the Lord corrects you. The Lord corrects everyone He loves, just as parents correct their favourite child.’ Proverbs 3:11-12 ‘My child, use common sense and sound judgement! Always keep them in mind. They will help you to live a long and beautiful life. You will walk safely and never stumble; you will rest without a worry and sleep soundly. Proverbs 3:21-24 Once again Francesca and I thank you for your continued support. God bless. Logan Brown and Francesca Crossley. Term 2 was so amazing. As a school we took part in so many activities - ‘The Giant Slayer’ production, Chess Tournament, Touch Rugby, Music Academy, Gymnastics and the 40 Hour Famine to name but a few. We are very proud that children from Rooms 3 & 4 took part in all these activities. Well done!
Thanks to the amazing Mrs Galloway who worked so hard in Room 3 allowing Mrs Crossley to step into Mr. Pauling’s role. This term for weeks 1 - 7 Mrs Van Der Vyver will be teaching in Room 3. Mr. Brown, Mrs.Crossley & Mrs. Van Der Vyer have been working together both before the holidays and during to ensure a seamless join in our children’s learning. Mrs. Crossley will be back with her ‘chickens’ from week 8. We hope that you enjoyed reading your child’s school report. In week 3 we have parent interviews which you’re welcome to attend. More news about these will be in the School Newsletter. So what is happening this term? Term 3 sees us starting with preparation for the RVS, and the Marlborough Cross Country races. All children will need their running shoes at school every day. Children will not need to change into full PE uniform however, PE kit is best kept in school bags Mon - Fri, as we have no set PE day and we might go outside from time to time. This term we will be taking part in the Fundamental Skills programme at the Stadium in Week 10. Our overarching topic is ‘God is Generous and wants us to be grateful and generous’. Our Term Scripture is at the end of this page and will also be sent home on Day 1 of the term. All children are expected to recite their scripture by the end of week 7. In Devotions we will be looking particularly at the following books from the Bible - Samuel, Joel, Luke 10-24, Acts and Philippians In Science we are looking at Fins and Feathers - as we appreciate the design features of animals, environments and ourselves, we can respond with wonderment and awe and exhibit the quality of gratitude. In Social Science we will be investigating ‘Precious Places and Resources of our Nation’. In Literacy we will be exploring the features of Poetry and creating our own poems. In Maths we will be looking at Fractions, Time and Number as well as Patterns and Relationships. As always, we thank you for your support. We will continue to build on our own learning so that we can support and guide your child with their learning. May God bless you. Francesca Crossley, Logan Brown & Malanie Van Der Vyver. Year 3 Memory Verse Don’t worry “Don’t worry and ask yourselves, ‘Will we have anything to eat? Will we have anything to drink? Will we have any clothes to wear’? Only people who don’t know God are always worrying about such things. Your Father in heaven knows that you need all of these. But more than anything else, put God’s work first and do what he wants. Then the other things will be yours as well. Don’t worry about tomorrow. It will take care of itself. You have enough to worry about today. Matthew 6:31-34 Year 4 Memory Verse Two builders ‘Anyone who hears and obeys these teachings of mine is like a wise person who built a house on solid rock. Rain poured down, rivers flooded and winds beat against that house. But it didn’t fall, because it was built on solid rock. Anyone who hears my teachings and doesn’t obey them is like a foolish person who built a house on sand. The rain poured down, the rivers flooded, and the winds blew and beat against that house. Finally it fell with a crash! Matthew 7:24-27 Year 5 Memory Verse Don’t store up treasures on earth! Moths and rust can destroy them, and thieves can break in and steal them. Instead store up your treasures in heaven where moths and rust can’t destroy them, and thieves can’t break in and steal them. Your heart will always be where your treasure is. Your eyes are like a window for your body. When they are good you have all the light you need. But when your eyes are bad everything is dark. If the light inside you is dark, you really are in the dark. You can’t be the slave of two masters! You will like one more than the other or be more loyal to one than the other. You can’t serve both God and money. Matthew 6 v 19-24 |
