Next week we are blessed to have Constable Josh Reidie coming in to talk to Room 4 about ways we can keep safe in our homes, school and community. Josh Reidie is not only our Community Policeman, he is also a parent in our school. Josh is able to support us in many ways within a Christian Context.
This Social Science theme links with our overall arching theme of – How can we obey God? and Why do we need Laws and Rules? We will briefly talk about
We will be learning that there are many people who can help us and that it’s important to ask for help when we need it. Josh will be coming back in a couple of weeks again to talk about ‘Rules’ and to do some more role-playing activities. Thank you Josh for your time and effort in sharing your expertise in these areas. We trust you have all had a great break over the holidays and everyone is recharged and ready for another great term. Term one finished well with swimming week in week ten, and a celebration of Easter in week eleven. It was great to see so many parents come through our classes to view students work for Easter.
Term two is already looking like a busy term with organisation and practise for our school production getting underway in week five. This will be a great experience for a lot of our younger and new students in the school, as well as an opportunity to build confidence in front of an audience, regardless of experience. We are really looking forward to it in Rooms Three and Four! Our PE day in our classes is changing to a Tuesday. Gymnastics is our focus for the first part of the term. Please ensure PE kit is bought for Tuesday afternoons. The scripture memory verses for this term are as follows: Year 3 - ‘You are the light of the world. Let your light shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.’ Matthew 5:14 and 16. Year 4 - ‘Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.’ ‘Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! Matthew 7: 7-11. Year 5 - ‘Don’t condemn others, and God won’t condemn you. God will be as hard on you as you are on others. He will treat you exactly as you treat them. You can see the speck in your friend’s eye, but you don’t notice the log in your own eye. How can you say “My friend, let me take the speck out of your eye,” when you don’t see the log in your own eye? You’re nothing but show offs! First take the log out of your own eye. Then you can see how to take the speck out of your friend’s eye.’ Matthew 7: 1-5. There is nothing more important to learn than God’s word. This term we are looking at why people choose to obey God. For us to obey God we must know his word and have it in our hearts. God bless, see you soon, Mrs Crossley and Mr Brown. We've had a great term so far in Room Four with students having settled well into routines and showing great progress as a result of the effort that is going in.
We have been starting to look at what the events of Easter means to us individually, as we come close to the end of the term and have Easter in the holiday. Next week is swimming week at the stadium, which is always well looked forward to by students at the end of Term One. Please ensure students have towel, togs, goggles and a bag that are all clearly named. We are not the only school using the facility and unfortunately it is not possible to locate un-named items that go missing. Students have also been reminded that they should have gear prepared already. Looking forward to a strong finish to what has been a great term in Room Four so far this year. God Bless, Mr Brown. o
Hello! Kia Ora! It’s great to be back and it’s going to be another fabulous year. As per last year Rooms 3 & 4 will be working co-operatively across the curriculum. This allows our children to work with different adults, engage in different relationships and work with their own learning style. Mr. Brown and I will be assisted this year with our amazing Class Teacher Aides – Mrs. Pauling, Mrs. Foote, Mrs. MacMillan and Mrs. Ramsay for some/all of our morning lessons. Please remember sun hats are to be worn this term. All school uniform, shoes included should be named. And so to what’s going to be happening in Term 1….. Please sign your child’s reading log each night. Reading texts may take on many different forms – scripture reading, letters, articles etc. A Text will be read 2 or 3 times some weeks. This allows us to ensure that our children are reading for meaning not simply memorizing. Mr. Brown and I set work relating to the texts each day. PE Our PE day this term will be Monday. Children are required to have full PE uniform and PE shoes. Please see the RVS website for more details about uniform. Water Please ensure that your child has a named water bottle. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’ For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. Revelation Welcome back to Room Three and Four for Term four! The home straight for the year always seems to come around so quickly, but time flies when you are having fun! We have been working collaboratively this year in our rooms, although this is the first time we have written a combined blog, so the information included is relevant to both our classes.
Student voice has been very positive towards the combined approach across our two classes this year, with students enjoying the opportunities to work with a wider range of students and adults in their learning. It has been great to see growth in students social and group work skills as they work with a range of peers. Term three was a particularly busy term with a number of sports skills (Hockey, Cricket, Tennis, Gymnastics and Cross-Country) included in our schedule. This was rounded off by a productive week at the Stadium for the Fundamental Skills Program. We also had two trips out to Brayshaw Park as we looked at Maori culture and Harekeke (flax) as a valuable resource to Maori. We started a specific focus on Spelling in Term three and will continue this in Term four. We have seen most students engage well with the spelling program and watched many of them grow in confidence and ability with their spelling as a result. Strong support from home with learning spelling words has helped with the students we have seen the most growth in. Please continue to listen to children read out loud each night. Asking questions afterwards that test understanding of what has been read, or link to children’s prior knowledge, helps a lot with comprehension and inference skills. Our Term four Scripture for year three is Psalm 121, Year four is Proverbs 3: (1-3, 5-6, 11-12, 21-24) and Year five is Matthew 5:1-10. Each child received a copy of this prior to the holidays so they can start to learn them over the break. If they lose them they will be on our Class page. Our Devotions topic for the term is ‘God is Truth and wants us to be Truthful’. We will be teaching that God’s truth is absolute and although it can be challenging to to tell the truth at times, it should always be done with love. This is a very relevant topic in the world we live in today and our view on this topic sets Richmond View School apart from other schools. We thank you for your continued support and love, Logan Brown & Francesca Crossley. Hi to all,
It's hard to believe we're looking at the end of term three already! It's been a busy term and a term of growth, both in the classroom and in creation around us. What a term to have been studying God's creative side as we watch creation blossom outside. It is great to have all of Room 4 now completed their memory verses for the term. Great achievement! We have had a great success with the focus on spelling this term, many thanks for the consistency from parents with the homework for this. There has been a lot of growth for students and this growth being tracked by students as they graph their own progress week to week. It is a pleasure to see how well this program is working and how well it has been engaged with. The consistency with reading at home is also appreciated. It is great to see the growth in student's comprehension skills between testing earlier in the year and the current testing I have just made a start on. The effort from home helps hugely with that growth! Please continue the hard work and make it a regular occurrence to hear your child read out loud, followed by asking them some questions that quiz their understanding and if possible, require them to 'read between the lines'. We are looking forward to fundamentals next week. What a fun way to finish a great term. Please can you ensure that permission slips for this come back early this week. Students have been reminded of this. PE kit should be worn to school for Monday to Thursday next week, with togs, towel and goggles packed too. Look forward to speaking soon! Mr Brown. Welcome back to term three. Hope everyone is feeling rested after a well-deserved break!
Great to think that by the end of this term it’ll be warming up again as we approach spring! We have a busy term ahead of us. Our focus for devotions is ‘God is Creative’. This topic also links to our topics for all other areas. We will have a visit to Brayshaw Park for Social Science later in the term, a notice for this should come home shortly. Parent help for this would be greatly appreciated. We have a specific focus on spelling starting this term with the ‘learn to spell’ program starting week one. Memory verses for the term are Matthew 7:24-27 for year four, and Matthew 6:19-24 for year five. These were issued at the end of term two, but further copies can be sourced from me should they be needed. Homework this term will be reading at least three times a week, revision of spelling words if required and at times topic work relating to what we are looking at in class. A reminder that we are starting preparation for cross-country, and it is recommended to have a pair of running shoes for fitness each morning. Looking forward to another great term in Room 4, Blessings, Mr. Brown. Term two already! We have had a great start back to the term in Room four.
I sent scriptures home early before the holiday so that students could make an early start on learning them. We have had quite a few people already say theirs this term! Great to see :) Year four scripture is Matthew 7:7-11. Year five scripture is Matthew 7:1-5. This term in devotions our topic is 'God is forgiving'. We have started this by looking at the nature of sin, as being outside of the will of God. We will look at the effect that this has on our relationship with God and what God has done for us to restore that relationship. In Maths we have been looking at subtraction and will start to look at patterns this term. In literacy we are learning some grammar rules and writing tools, putting them into practice as we go. For Social Studies, Science and Art we are looking at the weather and water. Students should be bringing some reading home each week from what we are reading in our reading groups. There may be a small research task to work on at home, related to their reading topic in some weeks also. Looking forward to seeing you all again during the term :) Regards, Mr Brown. Hi parents and caregivers,
Room four should be reading something at home at least three times a week. We all have a bookmark that we have made to record this on. At this stage I have said that it doesn't matter how much or what they are reading, as long as it is something and three times. In term two there will start to be a bit more guidance around what this reading should be. There will also be some homework set each week on either of studyladder or mathletics websites. These are activities that are relevant to the work we have been looking at in class. There are games that can be played on mathletics too. Whilst these games may be a learning experience, they won't be set as homework and are a students choice to do these, not work required to do by me. At times there may be other activities for homework that are related to our topical studies, but this won't be a regular occurrence. The aim of the homework is to support what we are learning in class, without overloading students during their family or leisure time. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions with regard to the content or quantity of homework. God bless, Mr Brown. Hi from Mr Brown,
It's great to be on board and am looking forward to the year ahead in room 4. We have a lovely class of students and have made me feel at home already! This term our memory verses are The ten commandments for year 4's and The books of the bible for year 5's. We will make a start on those this week. We have sports on Wednesday afternoons, so a reminder to send sports gear Wednesdays. It's certainly a hot start to the year, a good reminder for water bottles and hats for students :) I've had the chance to meet a few parents already, but look forward to getting to know you better and meeting those I have not yet met as we progress through the term. God Bless, Mr Brown. |
