Term 2 already! I trust everybody enjoyed a relaxing break after a long and busy first term. This term Room 4 will have 23 students as our Year 5 boys move to Room 3A. We will still see them regularly, as we interchange for maths and when we join together for our weekly P.E. session. P.E. day will now be Thursday and children will need to have P.E. uniform and sneakers at school this day. It is also helpful if they have sneakers every day for fitness and occasional lunchtime games sessions.
Homework will continue to be a weekly requirement and it was very pleasing to see how some children stepped up to the challenge of regular reading, spelling and Mathletics. Please will you check your child’s homework book each week and help them to achieve their homework targets. Room 4’s assembly is on Friday of week 2 so we hope you can come along. Week 2 will also be busy because of the Ride On Programme running on Thursday. Please make sure you are familiar with the pre-event requirements regarding bike and helmet checks. Please look out for a Medical Information form that will come home in week 1. This needs to be completed and returned to the office so that records can be updated. Finally, we are pleased to welcome a new student to Room 4. Tayah is Year 6 and we are sure she will love being with the other awesome students in this classroom. As always, if you have any questions or concerns please see me, email or make an appointment through the office, Blessings, Carol Wilson Just a reminder that Room 4 are taking assembly next week, Friday 18th March. Please join us if you are able.
Congratulations to those students who have leant the term scripture. Please help your children to learn it by the end of week 9, Friday 1st April. Ki O Rahi. Some students are learning toplay Ki O Rahi at lunchtimes with Mrs Foote. This is so that RVS can enter a team in the Ki O Rahi tournament later this term. More details to follow, but if you're not sure what the game involves, ask your child! February 2016 Homework.
I would like to take the opportunity to outline the homework programme in Room 4. Each week there will be a short scripture to learn, daily independent reading, Mathletics and spelling. The weekly scripture can be either recited to me or to you at home. Please initial next to the scripture if your child says their scripture to you. Each night I would like the children to do approximately 20 minutes of independent reading. They should record this themselves in the homework book, either as time spent reading or number of pages read. I will not send journals home: children can select their own reading material and can bring home books from the school library. I will set some tasks for the children to complete on Mathletics and would like them to achieve 1000 points a week, although they may have opportunity to achieve points during class time too. Spelling activities will mostly be completed at school but there may be spelling tasks to help children learn their weekly words. I have provided some ideas on ways to help learn spelling words. In addition there may be other activities from time to time, such as preparing an item for oral language or topic related tasks. Homework books will go home on Monday and should be returned to school on Friday. I would appreciate it if you would sign the weekly homework page to confirm you have seen it. I understand that life after school can get busy and after school activities are important, so please let me know if there is a problem in completing the homework. If you have any queries or feedback you would like to give about the homework you can either write in the homework book or email me mrs.wilson@rvs.school.nz Thank you in anticipation of your support for the homework programme. Carol Wilson Dear parents, caregivers and students
I hope that you all had a fantastic summer break and enjoyed the marvellous weather we had. I enjoyed some time at the beach with the family, as well as the opportunity to relax and catch up on jobs at home. As usual we launch straight into a very busy term, so I trust the children are well rested and ready to for an exciting start to the year. This term sees the launch of our Enviro Schools programme, also we have a visit from the Life Education bus and of course there are swimming lessons in week 2. I look forward to meeting you all over the next few weeks, either in the classroom, after school or at the upcoming Parent Information evening. in the meantime, if you have any specific questions or queries please make contact with me. Looking forward to a great year, blessings Carol Wilson |
