We had a great trip to Brayshaw Park, seeing many things and learning a lot about New Zealand history.  Thanks so much to all the parents who came along - it was great having you all there!

We have our Daily news each day in the afternoon and as part of this each child has a day where they can bring along something they have found or discovered to talk about or just share about what has happened in their lives.  This is a chance for them to communicate and ask questions to others in our class.

Have an amazing holiday with your families Transition team.  Keep training in your Numeracy on Mathletics and don't forget to try and read every night to build up your word power!  Keep track of your progress on the Reading Log beside this (as I noticed that the book bags were not sent home on Friday) and show me how much you have done when we start school again in Term 4!

At Richmond View School we know the importance of the Scriptures.  Each child that begins at our school will receive their own Bible which they will use throughout their time at school.

Kia ora and welcome to the Richmond View School Community.  This is a special time in our school history and we are excited to begin this journey of Transition with you.

The Transition from home to school is one of the most important times in your child's life and we want you to know we are walking hand in hand with you in this process.  If you need any help with anything or just need to ask a question please contact me at
rm0teacher@rvs.school.nz.

Entering School
With our school growing every day we are changing the way we do things to merge with the rest of our area school.  The new school entrance is in between Room 3 and 4 and Room 5.  If possible please try to enter through this area and make your way into the school via Room 1.  As the Transition Room is right beside the office then it is easy to access after drop off.

What to expect in our Transition room
The Transition Room Daily Timetable (see top right) ensures the three key learning areas of Numeracy, Writing and Reading are completed in the morning.  Along with this we run a Perceptual Motor Programme which practises the main things students should be succeeding in at 5 years old.  For more information on this please view here
In the afternoon we have News time, Inquiry Learning (our major Topic of study) and Physical Education.

Behaviour and Expectations
We use slips school-wide to encourage positive behaviour and learning. A green slip is sent home when a student has done something exceptional in their behaviour/attitude or learning. An orange slip is sent home as a behaviour/learning warning. This is to allow you, as first educators, to discuss the action and consequence which caused the receiving of the orange slip.

Assessment
Once your child has been at school between 6-10 weeks, we will assess their Reading, Writing, and Math's ability. After these are completed we will invite parents in to a short meeting  to discuss how your child is going and we will try to answer any concerns or questions you may have. We can also give a brief classroom tour at this time.  Official Reporting is done in Term 4 where a written report is sent home.

Uniform
During your child's school visits it is not necessary for them to be in school uniform so please do not feel pressure to purchase things before they start.  RVS is in the process of changing our uniform (please refer to picture at right) but there is a 2 year change over time from the old uniform to the new.
