Dear Parents and Caregivers,
My name is Charlotte Christie and I am a mum to a wonderful 14 year-old boy who attends a public high school. As we are all aware, and what has been seen on recent news, children as young as 6 are accessing vaping products and using them on school premises and within our community. According to statistics from a recent Asthma Foundation survey, 20% of students are now regular users of such products and they are mostly accessed from local dairies and convenience stores. This is an alarming number of young people exposing themselves to potentially harmful toxins and chemicals with effects not yet known. These products often appear to be the target for the extremely staggering amount of ram raids and crime that is being committed by some of the young members of our community. I have started two petitions to remove the sale of vaping products from dairies and convenience stores which I implore you to share with your faculty and school community. We can rally together as a community to put a stop to the negative behavior and severe health effects that has been and continue to be prevelant in our school system and societies. https://petitions.parliament.nz/2a168fb2-ec46-478c-52f5-08db2efc521d And https://www.change.org/p/remove-disposable-vapes-from-dairies-and-non-specialist-stores?recruiter=39669955&recruited_by_id=87879df0-4c0a-0130-bd59-3c764e048845&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=copylink&utm_campaign=petition_dashboard There is also a Facebook page that anyone is free to join to find resources, share stories and experiences and to support the cause. https://www.facebook.com/groups/vapefreekidsnz Thank you for your support. Kind Regards Charlotte Christie

Most of you will already know that five of our students have been selected to be a part of the Combined Colleges Production "School of Rock" to be performed in the ASB Theatre in August. Rehearsals have begun….the guitars are tuned, the drums are loud, the singing is awesome and the dance moves ROCK! Please see attached the order flier for our wonderful new fundraiser through Pasta Verde! No raffle tickets to sell, no overpriced silent auctions….simply warm comforting yumminess for the cold nights ahead! Final orders are on Monday 29th of May (but please don’t wait until then!) Orders will be ready to be picked up on Friday 16th of June, at Marlborough Boys College. Please order generously and spread the flier far and wide to your friends, families, contacts and on your social media. 20% of the profits will go towards this production. The students are working hard and appreciate your support. Dinner for the family or an Italian-themed party is just a few clicks away! Press the ADD button after the number of portions and your orders will appear in the top right box. This is a massive opportunity for our students. Thank you in advance for your support. https://www.pastavera.co.nz/FROrder.aspx?Organisation=SchoolofRock Ngā mihi Ian Kerby |
