Room One is a busy little classroom with 20 students and is continuing to grow. Below are a few important things you need to know about being in Room 1. Nightly ReadingIt is extremely important when children first start school they read every night. Please ensure you spend 15-20 minutes reading each night and discussing the story they read. Your child will have a reading diary which will come home each night. This is a great communication device as I read it each day. Please feel free to write any notes you may have as well as making a comment about your child’s reading. Each Friday your child will bring home a clear file with our weekly poem. This counts as a nights reading. Every night counts as we are trying to reach our reading milestones. P.E. DayThis term our physical education day is Tuesdays. Room 1 students need to wear their full P.E uniform with sneakers on Tuesdays. Students must wear black PE shorts, RVS P.E shirt and sneakers. StationeryPlease talk to the office about stationery as we already have packs made up and ready to go for each class. ScriptureEach term we encourage our students to commit a passage of scripture to memory and recite it to their teacher. These will be placed on Room One’s Blog page. You can search for scripture under 'Categories' (at right). ContactMy e-mail is Miss.Galloway@rvs.school.nz. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, concerns or messages. Our Classroom ValuesExpectationsHi Mums and Dads,
Over the past two days we have been having so much fun setting up our Mathletics accounts. Mathletics is a fun online programme which supports their numeracy learning while having fun. Each student has their own password and can complete maths activities at home. Students are assigned tasks by their classroom teacher and must complete these tasks before further tasks will be given. Tasks will be updated each week. When students have completed these tasks they can head onto Mathletics live and have competitions against other children from around the world! You will find your child's password glued into the front cover of their homework reading log so you can work with your child online. Please encourage your child to use Mathletics at least twice a week and have discussions about how they have solved some of the problems. This is a great resource. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do! Hi everyone, Welcome to the new school year! By the sounds of Room One’s holiday stories you have all had a great summer break. Beaches, camping, fishing, swimming, BBQ’s, both national and international trips all such wonderful experiences! I’m thrilled to start the year with 14 gorgeous little ones. This year we have had 4 new students join our RVS community. Welcome Jordana, Anthony, Noah and Sarang. It is so great to have you and your families joining the Room One team. We have such a busy beginning of term with learning new routines, swimming, our parent evening and our goal setting interviews. (Information about these will be going shortly). I believe that communication is key in the success of your child and a great teacher/parent relationship. I encourage you to contact me of you have any questions or concerns at any time. This year I look forward to working with you to develop your child's learning. In order to support your child’s learning, I ask that you ensure he or she:
Reading HomeworkOur daily reading programme will begin next week. A daily reading book will be sent home in your child’s reading folder with their yellow reading log each day. Discuss the book topic and each picture together as you read. Once your child has read to you please fill out the reading log with a comment. On Fridays children will bring home a poetry folder (A4 clear file) with a poem that we have been reading and discussing as part of our language programme for that week. Please read this with your child and ask your child about some of the things they have discussed or learnt in class to do with this poem. Children are free to read their own reading books over the weekend. Please remember to fill in their reading log as students have reading milestones to reach and the more books read the quicker they reach their target. Important notes for Swimming
A few notes for the TermAssembly: Room One will be running Assembly in Week 4 (26th February) Uniform: Please make sure your child is wearing the correct uniform. Any questions please come and see me or Maria in the office. Little accidents sometimes happen at school so it may be a good idea to pack a spare pair of shorts and underwear in their school bag for these occurrences. P.E Day: P.E day is going to be Thursdays for this term only and students need to wear their full school P.E gear with sneakers to school on Thursdays. Parent Info & Meet the Teacher Evening TUESDAY NIGHT, 9th February, 6:30pm to 7:45pm There will be a child-minding service in the hall (Ages 5 to 12). Looking forward to seeing you at parent night! Scripture
Each term we have a key scripture verse that is compulsory for the students to learn and when they know it they are to come and say it to their teacher. This terms scripture verse is John 3:16 Please help your child learn this at home and when they are ready they can come and tell me the verse before school. |
