Tempo

Part of the RVS Music Academy philosophy is that "Sharing music with others is important for improving musical and performance skills: using our talents to bring enjoyment to others is a Godly concept." In our experience, children who are encouraged to perform regularly are more motivated to practice regularly at home, therefore improving their musical skills quicker and enjoying their music more, which makes your investment in their music lessons all the more worthwhile. With this in mind all our Music Academy students are strongly encouraged to take part in TEMPO concerts (Today's Emerging Musicians Performing Onstage). These are held just four times a year, 7pm on a Friday night at the Wesley Centre, 3 Henry Street, Blenheim. The dates for 2021 are:

Orchestra
In 2015 RVS became the only primary school in Marlborough to have a school orchestra, and five years later we're still going strong. Learning to play in time and harmony with other musicians is such an important part of being a good musician that all Music Academy students are strongly encouraged to aspire to be part of the orchestra. Year 4 - 11 students who have completed their first year of learning an instrument and are able to read music or TAB are welcome to join the orchestra (students learning with other music teachers outside the RVS Music Academy are very welcome).
Over the past five years our Orchestra has prepared for and performed annually at the Baptist Church's final Seniors Outreach in November, performing and bringing a clear gospel message through narration, music, and songs with the RVS Choir to between 50 - 70 seniors from Old Folks Homes. This partnership with the Baptist Church has been a real blessing to us and to them, and a great avenue for the students to use their musical skills for the glory of God. We hope to do this again this year, and of course we also love to perform at our annual Prize Giving, ending the year on a real high note!
