C-Block Classroom Update

21/10/2019

You will have noticed that construction of our new C-Block has commenced. The building will look something similar to the image below and will house two new classrooms, two break out rooms, a PE storage area and canteen.
Picture
The features of this building will be beautiful and include well-considered lighting, a range of furniture options and the building will be equipped to support a range of ICT.

Below is an outline of the school that was made up earlier this year and provides an indication of where buildings will be placed. Some aspects will have changed from the  original concept, but the position of the building remains at the end of B-Block classrooms.

We are excited at the prospect of our Year 9 and 10 students moving into this building in 2020!

If you have any questions concerning this new building, or any other aspect of building developments at RVS, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Changes for 2020

24/9/2019

OUR APPLICATION HAS BEEN APPROVED!

26/9/2018

RVS HAS MINISTRY APPROVAL TO ESTABLISH A COLLEGE
The Richmond View School community is excited to announce that we will be transitioning to a full Y1-13 composite school. Marlborough as a region is currently the only region within New Zealand that has no option of faith-based education for children moving into secondary schooling. By expanding Richmond View School to a composite Y1-13 school, we will be able to provide the option of faith-based education to families within Marlborough and have been working with the Ministry of Education towards this goal since 2013.

We will begin roll-out with our first Year 9 class commencing in 2019.

College Progress

18/6/2018

During the year we have been working on a number of areas in preparation for our college opening in 2019. I'd like to provide you with an update of both what we and the Proprietors have been working on:
Picture

1. Curriculum

PATHWAYS
We are currently working on developing a broad and forward thinking style of curriculum that incorporates endless options and multiple pathways for students. Pathway options will include:
  • Full NCEA
  • Christian Schools New Zealand (CSNZ) Certificate university entrance
  • Qualified non-university
This is an exciting opportunity and will be the envy of many New Zealand schools, as our students will have far more diverse individual pathway options than most students within New Zealand.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
The Marlborough Lines Stadium 2000 Health & Fitness Centre are excited to partner with us to develop a PE programme for our college students. Through this facility, our students will gain access to specialists in each sporting field and have the opportunity to experience a wider range of sporting opportunity than many small schools are able to offer.

2. Uniform

We recognise a need for consistency across the school with regard to uniform and the commencement of our college next year provides an ideal opportunity to review our entire uniform to ensure it reflects current conditions and school culture. Our uniform review process will be led by the Board of Trustees and will involve several consultation periods to ensure we carefully and respectfully consider all options.
Picture
The brief will include the following. Uniform must:
  • look smart
  • be low cost
  • comfortable
  • reflect the three distinct schools - Junior, Middle and Senior, while maintaining an RVS 'image'.
We expect the roll-out transition period to occur over two years, commencing in 2019, to ensure parents are able to get full use out of existing uniform.

Proprietors

The Proprietors have been working on a number of areas over the past few months, including:
  • First stage of the building process
  • An updated  attendance dues structure
  • What to call the new college.

Information Evening

We will host an information evening during Week Three of Term Three in which we will elaborate on all the information that we have up to this point, as will the Proprietors.

PARENTS OF YEAR 8 STUDENTS
I will be happy to meet with you individually at any time to discuss next year. Please feel free to drop in to see me or give me a call to discuss our plans.

ENROLMENT FOR 2019
Numbers for our first Year 9 class will be limited. First preference will go to current RVS students. We will be using the same enrolment criteria for the College as we currently do for the rest of the school.

Thank you for your continued support as we continue to define the coming college.  It is exciting and the miracle of Christian High Schooling in Marlborough shouldn't be lost on us.  Please continue to ask questions as more information becomes available and remember that there is already a large amount available in this blog and associated links regarding the vision for where we are heading.

God bless,

The Essentials

3/5/2018

OUR APPLICATION HAS BEEN APPROVED!

We will begin roll-out with our first Year 9 class commencing next year.

1. What does this Change of Class mean for our school?

Over the next year, it may not look like much is changing, however let us reassure you that a LOT of work is going on 'behind the scenes'. This includes things like:
  1. Planning for new buildings to accommodate the Middle and Senior schools.
  2. Mapping out curriculum and assessment so that students will transition smoothly from Year 8 into the senior years.
  3. Planning staffing requirements as the school expands and recruiting key people to help us 'realise the vision' of Christian secondary education here in Marlborough.
We expect our school to grow steadily over the next few years:
Picture

2. What changes will be made to the school grounds?

Some of the more immediate changes to the school will include:
  • The sports fields will be redefined (shifted further West) to allow more room for Middle and Senior School buildings to be constructed towards the East side of the school.
  • The current library building will be renovated and extended to accommodate our administration and offices, a staffroom and a classroom.
  • New senior courts will be built towards the East side of the school.

Picture

3. Will I get to have a say in our direction moving forward?

ABSOLUTELY!
We want to ensure that you feel included in the changes happening around the school. This goes beyond simply keeping you 'in the loop'. There will be information nights and online surveys where we will be seeking your feedback on key issues along the way.

4. What do I need to do in the mean time?

In short - PRAY!
We would really appreciate your prayer support as we navigate the changes within the school. In particular, could you pray for:
  • wisdom for the Proprietor and the RVS Board of Trustees as they make decisions for the future of our school;
  • faithfulness for those who are working on the project, that God would provide the energy and resources required for the task;
  • new staff members who will be joining our teaching team.
The latest in depth information concerning our educational philosophy and direction will always be available at our research website:
www.thisjustgotpersonal.co.nz
Picture
However, we will put summaries on this blog for those of you who prefer the headlines.  A copy of the original application is available to read in the RVS office upon request.

5. Are you part of our school community? Do you have questions?

Of course we expect that you will have a lot of questions and we will endeavour to answer these as soon as we are able. Some key points include:
  • The Proprietor is working on a new fee structure to support the expansion of the school facilities and they will notify the school community as soon as this has been finalised;
  • Important information will be released via the school website and normal school communications. This will include details such as how the property will look and what the education structure will look like.
  • The RVS Board parent representatives, in consultation with the school community, will establish uniform guidelines for each of Junior, Middle an Senior schools at RVS.
If you have any urgent questions, please complete the form below. We will collate questions and feed answers back as they become available.

New Classroom Extension

23/8/2016

Picture
We are excited to bring you news of our new classroom plans.  As you will be aware, we are a six teacher school functioning with five classrooms at the moment.  The planning process for the 6th classroom began when the roll increase from 120 students to 145 students was given.  The Proprietors of Richmond View School have accepted a contractor quote and building will begin hopefully before the start of T4, 2016.
The wall of the current Music/Drama Room will be extended toward the car park and other small learning areas will be added, along with a new resource area and an overhaul of Room 3.
Here is a basic floor plan.
Picture
The new classroom will be over 90m2 which is great.  The new small learning spaces will be for Reading Recovery, Early Words, meetings and testing.  The space labelled 'Breakout 1' will be used predominantly by the Middle Syndicate.

Below is a graphic illustrating how the classes will be laid out from 2017 onwards.  The new layout gives us three clear syndicates that will work together.  Doors in-between these syndicate classes will aide the already established collaboration between teachers at RVS.
Picture
The building work will happen in two phases, first construction and interior finishing.  This is to allow the classroom to be functional as early as possible.  Phase two will be exterior beautification and landscaping.
The building of this extension and the refurbishment of Room 3 will cause inconvenience and we apologise for this in advance.  We will do all we can to keep the impact on student learning to a minimum during the construction process.  We hope for the new class to be operational before the beginning of the 2017 school year.
Future development on the property has been, and is being considered as I write this.  There were many reasons why a new, separate building was not decided on but the main reason was the possibility of future high schooling on the premises and the need to conserve space for this.  Watch this space...
I wish to thank the Proprietors and the BOT for their ongoing work on this project.

Please feel free to ask me questions regarding the above announcement.

God bless

Dave Pauling - Principal

Enrolment Increase

8/12/2015

As a consequence of our roll increase approval, building and expansion will commence on site to accommodate our new numbers. We will provide progress updates here.
PORTALS
As a further feature of our website, we are in the process of developing portals that will include information pertinent to the following groups:
  • Students
  • Parents
  • Staff
  • Board Members

Student Portal
One of our first steps will be to develop a student portal that becomes the platform for notices and communication within the school. Our goal is to provide a single sign-on function that will automatically sign students into all their online educational programs.

Parent Portal
The parent portal will become not only an arena for clear communication of school activities, but also will enable parents to view their child's progress online. Parents will have easy access to important forms and information relating to their child's schooling.

NEW LEARNING SPACES
A significant aspect of future development revolves around creating indoor and outdoor learning spaces that are flexible, creative, colourful and exciting. Students who are emotionally engaged and motivated achieve much higher levels of learning.

The first stage of this has been the development of two themed break-out rooms, designed by students. These are now known as "The Map Room" and "The Hobbit Room".

We will notify the RVS Community on progress as we continue to work with the Proprietors to transform our students' learning environments.
